The basement of the castle tower (Bergfried) is the oldest preserved section of the castle and dates back to the 12 th century.
During the restoration of the castle tower 2000/2001, a Romanesque portal was uncovered which is a rarity throughout Germany . Also wall paintings from the 14 th century were discovered.
The “Bergfried” is approximately 75 feet high and offers an excellent view of the old town and the surrounding area.

Opening hours of the Castle Tower (Bergfried):

During summer time the tower is opened on Sundays and public Holidays from 14:00 till 17:00 hrs. For groups any time after advance notice.
