Former castle and administrative residence of the "Hochstiftisch-Bambergischen Pflegamts Vilseck", medieval building-plant groups around the inner court.
The earliest documentation of the castle was in 1190; however it dates back to the year 930 when it was built to protect the trade route from Nürnberg to Eger (the so-called “Goldene Straße”) against enemies.
